2013: A SWAT Summary

As we approach 2014, let's have a look back on the major SWAT events that occurred during the year that just passed:

The first week of January 2013 saw the completion of the Mini-RD tournament that was played exclusively on the Sirens Den map. A few weeks later yet another 1.0 ViP clan (T3) closed, allegedly due to the fact that old «|US|» member Fever was caught double-clanning.  To round off the month, Just Frags announced that they were going to host a new RD tournament.

With 8 teams signed up including |WM|, FoX| and »Cartel«, the JF|| tournament got well under way in February. During this period, well-known BS player bjoggi came into the spotlight after a screenshot of an xfire conversation got leaked which showed him discussing .ini modifications.

March saw the re-introduction of GameTracker support for SWAT4 servers, while an idea about a public 1.0 server with "no limitations on the rules" was brought forward. Unfortunately, it didn't come to fruition.

The JF|| tourney concluded in April, with |WM| taking top spot. Meanwhile, SWAT4 celebrated it's 8th birthday.

The month of May saw the rebirth of {TWT}clan, a true disaster from the outset which was only compounded further as it was renamed to Ultimate Force and included slogans such as "Fear us". In the final week of the period, one of the established BS clans {SWT} got closed, while the remaining active «|US|» members joined {FAB} as more clans started feeling the full force of an aging game.

In June, the VIP World Cup was confirmed to go ahead. The majority of matches were played in July, but the tournament finally finished in August, with Turkey claiming their second successive crown.

September 2013, just like October 2012 (when GameSpy shut down) was a damaging month to the game's survival. DExUS announced that UAC3 would be closing in the New Year, which will undoubtedly leave the competitive and public SWAT4 scene in disarray

In October, ||ESA|| clan announced that they would be hosting the final UAC-based SWAT tournament. While matches starting taking place in November, the SWAT community got "blessed" with the arrival of PVP clan, with the StoneCold saga still vivid in the memory.

Finally, in December, |MYT| confirmed they would be running a new Co-Op tournament (which has reached the latter stages), while the ESA tourney came to its conclusion as |WM| clinched their second trophy of the year.

In last year's summary, it was widely predicted that 2013 would be the final year for SWAT. However, it survived very successfully with some especially memorable moments from the competitive arena. But as we now bid goodbye to UAC, what lies next in the fate for this legendary shooter?

Celebrating the festive season with a ban

A ban infection has hit a selection of servers, with many players from 1.0 being affected. It seems the servers which use MarkMods (4U, FAB, SoH) have been hit, with a large number of clan members and public players alike being unable to access these servers. As there are no visible additions on their respective ban lists, it is likely that a MM-related bug has caused it.

Interview with »Cartel«BrK

There were very few interviews in a long time, so as a Christmas treat here is the second in the space of a week. Time for a chat with BrK (xfire: wannalife):

1 Tell us about yourself, an overview of your SWAT history…

I started SWAT4 (my first online game) 6-7 years ago after being asked by Gunes, my uncle, in 1.1. At first, we joined AiR clan which was originally ViP mode. Playing there a couple of years with the likes of Xabi, Ocboo, Micro and Tyler, I learnt the game well.  Thanks Xabii for everything :) I played so much with LSF and AE which was the core of the old Delta. Then Gunes left the game but I continued. A few years later AiR got closed - some members joined ELF, some WM and some left. I joined WM with Xabi and met some Turks there such as HecToR, KrAQL, ViRuS and SilverKnight. With this team including Storm and Kamikaze, we participated in the original Nation’s cup. Then I left 1.1 since it was going inactive and came to 1.0. In TRS I met VaLeRa who is now my best friend here. It was a Turkish clan and after playing there for so much time, we founded Cartel.

|WM| secure 5th title

With 25 matches complete over a 7 week period, the VIP tournament organized by ||ESA|| has come to an end. World Mafia emerged as champions after a 3-2 victory over Cartel in the final.  Congrats to |WM| and a worthy mention for the runners-up Cartel and 3rd place incumbents JF||.

The last UAC-based SWAT4 event of its kind ran very smoothly overall, so a job well done for the organizers who dealt with adversity and solved any problems successfully.  Hopefully the conclusion of the tournament will not symbolize the ending of competitive gaming within SWAT4.

Interview with DExUS

With UAC3 shutting down in less than 3 weeks time, it's time to have a chat with the founder of it all, a person who has put a lot of effort into keeping the SWAT community (and other games) as clean as possible. Lads and gents, interview with {USSP}DExUS:

1 Tell us about the history of UAC - what inspired you to make it, the changes and developments (UAC4SWAT, UAC2 and 3). Initially, did you plan it just for SWAT4 or was it always in your thoughts to cover a range of games?

I was annoyed by the amount of cheaters in SWAT4 and since our team was one of the TOP 3 European SWAT 4 teams at the time and the fact that we competed in the Electronics Sports League (ESL), the situation with new cheating teams was very bad. So I decided to do something to prevent cheating at league level.   That is where SW4TCH was born.  The design and functions were very poor and it was dismissed by the community. However league admins did like the idea.

So later I put together UAC4SWAT with the help of Snipes who was ClanBase admin at the time. I was also ESL admin at the time of UAC4SWAT creation so we put our heads together and added all info and stuff that might be needed for league admins.  Even though UAC4SWAT initially had no security or protection whatsoever we managed to catch large amount of cheaters.  Since I got tons of requests to create CoD2 and CS version of UAC4SWAT, we decided to create a whole new product that would be capable of supporting any game, and thus the "modern era" UAC (UAC2) was born.

2 Give us an insight into the work you had to undertake (e.g checking screens and matches, solving queries on forum, rolling out new updates, etc). Coupled with the loss of time and money, running UAC will have been far from easy for you. Did you have many regrets/difficulties?

Well, even if you or someone else has LEAGUE ADMIN status at UAC pages they can see only about 30% of what I can see and do.  All error reports that happen to players - even those that are minor and have no impact on UAC functioning - are sent to UAC pages where they get reviewed. There are about 6000-12000+ error reports generated per day. It depends on the amount of matches.  The errors are minor, but sometimes it is needed to check some of them if they are repeating for a certain player and evaluate if there is a way to fix the issue and if the effort is worth it.

MYT COOP 1.1 Tournament (with surprises)

First COOP tournament in SWAT4 is being prepared by |MYT|Edward (xfire: edwardbeer) on 1.1 version. This mode is usually not known for being competitive but more for the fun it can bring. Organizers also promise (unspecified) surprises. Tournament is announced to start on December 20th. For more details head off to MYT forum topic or to dedicated xfire tournament platform site.

History of tournaments

We thought it might be interesting to create a list of all tournaments held in SWAT4 so far. It is not complete yet and any help is welcome. Especially witnesses of early years of this game could provide useful information. And of course the list will be updated and article re-published once the two current tournaments are over so do your best there to see your clan tag in it.

Yet another must-be article about <<{PVP}>> member

Today I had to lock the discussion under the introductory article of <<{PVP}>> clan, because their members had been coming here and using inappropriate language. They complained we accused them of cheats unjustly. Few moments later I checked their web and saw a link to their new blog. And what I found there was the most astonishing self-bust ever. Check second picture in this section where they say they are using admin panel. In the back-ground on the left side of the screen you can see white small square in a bigger grey transparent square. Radar. This further proves how endlessly stupid cheaters can be. Because the screen will be probably removed after they see this article, I made a copy:

Will this finally open their leader's eyes?

UPDATE:
As you already know, Casey and StoneCold erased the proof. But they did is so stupidly that at first they only removed the white square, but transparent radar square was still unedited. On top of it, they started claiming it was us who used photoshop, and the original is on their web (you can see their lies in their old chatbox). Later they removed the whole blog and the poorly edited picture was on gallery in their website. After they saw we are having fun on their brainlessness, they removed it also from there.

And here is another quality stuff from StoneCold. Few days before this article, he joined ||ESA|| server with my nickname and he conducted an "interview". Look at the questions he asked (taken from server logs thanks to ||ESA|| clan):

Overview of ||ESA|| Tournament so far

After 12 completed matches the VIP tournament organized by ||ESA|| has reached its halfway point.  JF|| have stolen a march in Group A with two successive wins including an impressive 6-1 victory over »Cartel«, which has propelled them to the top. However, with SC|| drawing 4-4 vs «|PG|» the "Group of Death" remains wide open with every team still in with a realistic chance of qualification to the semi-finals.

Meanwhile in Group B, |WM| have unsurprisingly taken 1st spot with two comfortable victories. Though they are yet to play ||ESA|| or |MYT|, you would feel that their qualification is expected and the main issue lies in which team can secure the other qualifying spot. ||ESA||'s thrilling 4-3 win over |MYT| in the first week may prove to be the defining result in that battle.

There have been controversies, such as a Polish couple who devised a strategy so that one of them could play in-game without UAC, as well as a desktop bug issue regarding a Turkish player (which eventually got resolved). In summary though it has been a smooth process up till now and hopefully that will continue. To view the latest updated table click here.

<<{PVP}>> clan - all you (don't) need to know

While the eyes of S4 community are focused on interesting things going on in ESA VIP tournament, there are also other stories to tell. Like the one about "new" VIP clan named Professional VIP players established only a week ago. Their absence in the aforementioned tournament is the first sign, that it won't be so hot with their professionalism. But who are they?

If you remember our article about {<BoS>} clan, you know the basics. Same leader and similar attitude to cheaters. And we do not mean only ex-cheaters. We witnessed a round when their member StoneCold (xfire: stone1cold2) used long-arms in front of leader's very eyes and he is still on the roster. They have clean players too but their level of skill can be described as "beginners forever". With such attributes we do not expect this project to survive this year.

^TF^Clan leader Bazz busted on his own server

^TF^Clan was created only recently, focusing on CO-OP mode and custom maps. They also proclaimed to be strictly against cheating. Unfortunately they were so strict that more clean players were banned unjustly. Yesterday they had their first match in BS mode against pFF and surprisingly, clan leader Bazz got busted with aimbot/wallhack running on his PC. He immediately came up with a story of "someone called max who came through my team speak and injected something onto my computer". UAC logs reveal he had folder "C:\Users\Richard\Desktop\Aimbot\" on his PC, so this story, to put it mildly, can be credible only to the naive.

Recently a new trend emerged of more cheaters caught on TSS than on 1.0/1.1. {KGB} clan had to deal with another cheater in their ranks, this time a recruit called Justice. He was kicked almost immediately.

Clan bOmBeR MasTeRz (tag BM|) recruited a player called AkAHawk (xfire: jjhawky) who was caught on UAC with all possible cheats in his game folder (account 1, account 2, account 3). Noteworthy could be they also recruited two players with cheating history who are also members of pFF clan - Achint and Diablo.

Turkish wierdo BoSS Legend (xfire: vietmusou) was also busted. From time to time he starts some ridiculous clan like NwA, so better avoid him.

Reborn of «|US|»

After the closure of GameSpy, «|US|» clan took a hit and they went into inactivity. Reasons included the fact that many of their active players left the clan due to internal issues. This caused the merging process with {FAB} clan.

But to people's surprise, some of their old players decided to reopen the clan. Currently they have 15 members and although they don't have a server, they will soon have one (according to some players). It will be interesting to see how they will manage to position themselves at the same place they were a year ago.

"Police station" single-player and CO-OP map released

Map creator SaT released his second piece named Police Station - a new map playable in single player and CO-OP modes on 1.1 version and TSS. Police Station is a multi-storey building with a great number of rooms, suspects and civilians. Big maps tend to be boring but this is not the case. There is a wide variety of different rooms - offices, cells, garage, labs, training rooms and even an interrogation room with one-way mirror. All prepared in great detail and custom textures, same as author's first map The Manor.

Download of both SaT's maps is available at ModDB, StrategyInformer and also in Desrat's SWAT Downloader. Feel free to post a comment if you succeed in this hard-core mission.

||ESA|| to organize final UAC-based VIP tournament

||ESA|| clan will be staging what looks to be the final VIP tournament with UAC3. It will be a clan-based tournament but freelance players can form their own team with friends and take part. The deadline for signing up is the 3rd of November and more information regarding rules and servers can be found here

The tournament will likely coincide with the 3v3 BS tournament by »{CEL}«, though considering it is a different mode there shouldn't be any issues.

New version of GameTracker server fix released

Since we exclusively informed about GameTracker fix for SWAT4 and TSS servers more than 50 clans have adopted it. However, a bug was discovered which causes the server to appear offline even though it is not. This occurs especially when server is full and persists until restart/map change.

As of today a fix was released by Serge with support of |MYT|BaDTimE. It is available for download with a detailed read-me file. Installation is simple and similar to configuring the standalone version of the original GT fix. Source code is also published here. If you are suffering with the aforementioned bug we do recommend moving to this new version.

Cheaters report - September 2013

While there is a big bustwave for other games going on right now on UAC, list of SWAT4 cheaters is not growing much anymore. Nevertheless there was enough of unfair players for this article

Achint was busted with multicheat a month ago. If you see him claiming this was a bug, don't believe him, he very well knew what he was trying there. Despite of this, he was accepted to XF clan soon after, which further proved that this clan is prone to giving second chances.

On TSS, one of many {KGB} leading members Elio was caught on UAC without any consequences towards him. EDIT: after reading this article, clan representatives decided to kick Elio, though they believed he hadn't cheated intentionally but had been a victim of a corrupted game download.

To support its reputation of the clan with a ridiculous recruitment process, two more cheaters were recently accepted to «|SoH|»clan. One is Oops_WaWa alias «|T3F|»Crow_Man, reported on S4N before. See his application topic here. Another one is Polish "star" AssasinsCred, recently going by the name of Cezar through clans like JF and DoK. His application topic is to be seen here.

Latest UAC catch is a FUN clan recruit Ninja. If you remember article about FUN leader Jahr cheating, then we probably can't expect any punishment here.

As a bonus, we must mention Speedycort. Firstly he was reported by other players. His reaction was creating rage and contra-accusation topic on SH and 4U websites. Later, though he was careful to turn his cheats off before joining UAC, one of his screen captured his desktop with a lovely SWAT4 Aimbot icon on it.

Interview with ||ESA||RIddIcK

1 Tell us about yourself - your general real-life and SWAT history...

I'm a bavarian in his early twenties. I'm in the last year of studying a physical subject. I started playing SWAT4 right after release, when I still went to school.  Some friends and I bought the game and we founded a small COOP clan (AMP). I mostly played COOP mode at this time, but also played some VIP and even more sporadically the other modes. 3 years later (2008), after we had several longterm breaks from SWAT4 we ended AMP clan. Soon after I got recruited by eXtyle (Ex-|WM|) for the BS/VIP-clan >c0p< and collected my first experience in (mainly) BS and VIP matches.

All you have to do is to try beat our fun SWAT quiz - more instructions are given in the link itself.

Arrest-free bug

Everyone knows that our game, especially 1.0 version, is buggy. Some glitches are notoriously known, like the Foodwall stairway bug. But the one we are presenting here, though it was discovered long time ago (probably by WestCoast clan) is almost unknown. Maybe because it is quite impossible to carry it out during normal game-play. With this bug, you can arrest an already arrested opponent thus gaining +5 points each time, while the arrested player cannot defend. Moreover, this bug can cause the arrested player to respawn while his arrested copy still remains in the game. This way, he can multiply many times or even go and meet his arrested predecessors and use their cams. Here is a demo:

If you want to try it yourself, do it on your own risk by following these steps:

DExUS announces UAC closure

After catching 9000 cheaters across multiple games (including 1000+ in SWAT), DExUS today publicly announced that UAC will close on the 1st of January, 2014. The main reason cited was the lack of free time to continue providing quality daily service. With over 290,000 registered users, the news is a hammer blow for all the fairplay gamers out there, although the cheating scum will be having a party tonight.

Winter BS tournament by Latin American clan »{CEL}«

Latin American SWAT4 community is at least as vivid as its European counterpart. A new BS 3vs3 tournament is being organized for the upcoming winter by Comando Elite Latino clan. Now only two teams are officially signed in, but reportedly at least the following squads shall participate: M3X, DSA, SS, L4K, FAL, COL and of course CEL. Participation of European teams would bring a rare chance to compare strengths of these two big but geographically, language-wise and naturally also ping-wise divided communities. For further information about rules check the tournament forum (in English and Spanish) by clicking the tournament banner.
